Mexican Armada affirms presence of illicit fishing practices in the Yucatán

Last night, the 90th Naval Zone’s Bahía Small Vessel Inspections Group, located in Yukalpetén, Yucatán, affirmed that the shallow water fishing vessel “Don Ezequiel” was encountered carrying illegal fishing cargo on board in the aforementioned port.

The vessel was encountered during a routine patrol of Abrigo, Yukalpetén´s port, and after the inspection of the fishing vessel, 1,090 eggs and approximately 40 kilos of hawks bill sea turtle meat was found. Upon verification of the product the four crew, along with their boat, were taken to the naval outpost.

The crew, Amalio Colli Lío, age 40 (Captain), Ernesto Osorio León age 45, Jonathan Ulloa Chale age 21, and Nicolás Ulloa Córdoba age 25, were evaluated at the Yukalpetén’s naval base and later handed over to the Federal Public Ministry Agency for further processing.

Both vessel and its cargo remain under guard by the 90th Naval Zone.
